Documents you need to rent in Ireland
A checklist of what Irish landlords typically ask for.
What you'll be asked for
Renting in Ireland usually requires:
- Photo ID — passport or driver's licence
- PPS number — for tax purposes (only after accepted, never in an enquiry)
- Proof of address — recent utility bill or bank statement
- Proof of employment — recent payslips (usually last 3) or an employer's letter
- Bank statements — last 3 months
- Landlord reference — from your previous landlord
- Character reference — often from an employer or professional contact
Students
Students usually need a parental guarantor and a college enrolment letter.
Non-Irish residents
An Irish-based guarantor or 6 months rent in advance is common if you have no Irish credit history.
A note on scams
Never pay a deposit or share your PPS before viewing a property. Report any suspicious listing via the Report button.
